What’s a Powwow?

The traditional definition of a powwow is a North American Indian ceremony or festival involving feasting, dancing, and singing. The only thing is a powwow means more than that to most native people. To them, a powwow is a place where people gather from all over the country for a weekend of food and fun. At many powwows there are tons of different types of food to try, lots of crafts and jewelry to buy, and a circle. The circle is a lot like a traditional stage, only the Native American circle allows people to come out and sing and dance, both who are Native American and non-natives alike. At powwows, people can learn and experience the native culture, along with having a weekend full of memories and fun. Powwows are open to the public and are always one of a kind experiences. Powwows are held all over the country and should be on everyone’s bucket list because they are unforgettable experience and a great time.
